MHS Students Earn SXSW Scholarship Awards for Creative Online Portfolio

Five Manor High School students will get to experience South by Southwest for submitting a creative online portfolio during the E4 Youth Get Creative Competition.

These students have been selected to receive SXSW badges valued over $1,150 each. Students earned the award based on the number of "Get Creative", Digital Creative Portfolio and/or Employability Curriculum badges they acquired through E4 Youth’s Get Creative Club. Their work was uploaded and then judged by industry professionals. They were given grades and feedback on the work submitted.

Students that received the badges are:

Sierra Bankston

Luis Castillo

Leyla Estrada

Kiana Horton

Jessica Landaverde

The Get Creative projects consisted of a variety of different categories from Visual Design, where students submitted anti-bullying posters, logo designs, photography, book layout and cover designs. Other categories were Audio and Video Production, Interactive Media, Journalism, Social Media, Writing Blogs and Creative Writing. The students earned "Get Creative" points that earned them badges. In addition, the students also received a critique in the form of written feedback that highlighted the strengths and suggestions on how to improve their skills.

The students will be experiencing SXSW with their mentors and be given an assignment while being part of the festival.
